Indonesia announced today that the latest round of executions including the two Bali Nine Australians will be postponed for up to a month, but only after we got a chilling view of what those Indonesian-style executions will look like thanks to local news.
TV station Channel 1 Indonesia showed footage that appears to give the step-by-step demonstration of how executions will go down on “Death Island,” the prison island of Nusakambangan.
With surprisingly impressive graphics for the news station, the footage uses holograms to show how the firing squad will line up, while the man sentenced to die is shown with his arms tied behind his back and a hood drawn over his face.
There are 27 rules firing squads must comply with, according to a report by news.com.AU. Some of those include the prisoner wearing simple white clothing and being tied by the hands and feet to a pillar in a standing, sitting, or kneeling position.
According to the report, the condemned prisoner gets just three minutes to calm down but can take comfort in the presence of a clergy member if needed. The black cloth over the face is apparently optional. Among the most disturbing parts of the process is that doctors draw a black mark on the man’s clothing over his heart, giving the squad a target.
If the prisoner is still alive after the first round, then a pistol is put to his temple just above the air. And this is said to happen as many times as necessary until the man in pronounced dead. (*shudder*)
Reports say coffins are already in place in Cilacap, the closest port to the prison.
