Police have made it abundantly clear that gambling is not tolerated in Bali and even selling lotto tickets is no exception.
A grandmother in Jembrana, trying to make ends meet, apparently turned to selling lotto tickets to pay for her husband’s medical treatment.
The 56-year-old woman, Ni Ketut Nadri, was arrested by Jembrana Police on Sunday, reports SindoNews.
Nadri claimed to have no choice but to sell the “togel,” because her husband was unable to work after suffering from a stroke and she said she even used most of the proceeds from her lotto ticket sales to pay for his medicine.
Gusti Made Sudharma Putra of Jembrana criminal police said Nadri was arrested on Sunday with another gambling perpetrator that she had been working with, Ida Bagus Wigunada, 43. Though the two were apparently arrested in different locations.
Putra says the two were making as much as Rp 4 million a day, but now they face a possibility of 10 years in prison.
The two accused gamblers were apparently found out by police based on a tip from the public.
