A baby goat with a rare condition called cyclopia was born in a village in Central Lombok on Sunday, stunning the residents.
The owner of the goat kid, Suprapto, 30, has been raising goats for a long time.
“The baby goat is quite weird. It doesn’t have hair and the coloring is also strange. It looks like [it has] a human face because of the beard,” Suprapto’s neighbor, Masdar, said yesterday evening, as quoted by Detik.
The baby goat was born around 8 pm and died after just 20 minutes. It was one of two kids that Suprapto’s goat delivered that day. The other one was normal.
Residents of Pandan Indah Village reportedly flocked to witness the odd goat kid. Masdar said even residents from neighboring village Kabul came to see the phenomenon.
Suprapto buried the poor goat kid immediately after it passed away.
Taufikurrahman Puanote, the head of the Central Lombok Agricultural Agency, confirmed that the baby goat had a genetic disorder that caused its abnormality.
Cyclopia is a birth defect that prevents the embryonic forebrain from splitting into two eye sockets. As a result, the animal has only one eye socket and one eye in the center of its forehead.
