A pair of bag snatchers in Canggu, Bali were captured by police after failing to make a clean getaway.
Driving on a motorbike, Abdur Rosid, 18 and Harus Aifan, 29, had just grabbed a bag from a Czech woman on Jl. Pantai Berawa in front of On Waroeng in the early hours of April 21, around 2 am, according to Tribun Bali.
With residents in hot pursuit, the pair sped off, but ended up crashing into a rice paddy, police said.
North Badung Police Chief Insp. Putu Ika Prabawa said during the chase, the two thieves lost control of their Honda Vario. The pair ditched the bike after crashing and took off on foot.
“They were chased by residents and lost control when riding their bike,” Prabawa told reporters on Sunday.
While they managed to get away for several hours, police were called and quickly started combing the area.
By noon the same day, North Kuta Police had captured Rosid and Aifan, said Prabawa.
Police have directly handed the case over to prosecutors.
