The three Laskar Bali members that were accused of murdering a Denpasar karaoke club manager in September 2015 have been sentenced to seven years in prison.
Though they could have been handed the death penalty, prosecutors had shown Tri Yulianto, Made Budiartha, and Wayan Slamet some leniency, only demanding ten years behind bars for the killing of Royal Palace Karaoke & Spa’s director I Komang Budiarta.
“The three defendants are legally convincingly guilty of committing murder,” Judge Edward Haris Sinaga said in Denpasar District Court on Monday, as quoted by Tribun Bali.
Mitigating factors in the court’s decision were that the perps didn’t have priors, a display of remorse, politeness in court, and they didn’t hold back with their testimony of the killing, according to Judge Sinaga.
The legal defense team and the prosecution say they will consider whether to appeal or not.
