Fundraiser launched to help Perth teen pay legal bill after dramatic paracetamol scandal in Bali

Perth teen Jamie Murphy was cleared of drug possession suspicions in Bali, but he’s far from the clear financially.

The 18-year-old has apparently racked up thousands of dollars in legal costs after the very dramatic ordeal in Bali last month that saw him arrested, jailed, drug tested, and ultimately released over a plastic bag of white powder allegedly found in his bag at Kuta nightclub, Skygarden. The powder, of course, turned out to be paracetamol and not cocaine, as police had suspected.

As one does these days when in dire financial straits, the teen has had a crowdfunding page set up to raise money to pay his “immense legal bill.”

Titled “The Price of Innocence”, Murphy’s GoFundMe page has raised just over $6k of its $30k goal, in the past several days since his friend Bryanna Heard launched the site.

The GoFundMe page appeals heavily to Murphy’s promising future as a footballer and the damage that so much international media attention has done to his character.
