Nine months spent in Bali’s Kerobokan Prison later, New Zealander Leeza Ormsby is now safely back in her home country, after being released on November 12.
You would think the woman who got that ‘lenient’ sentence over half a joint would rather go anywhere else in the world than Bali, but she actually seems quite keen on returning.
“I definitely want to go back to Bali. I’m not just going to put it behind me. It completely changed my life,” Ormsby said, as quoted by the New Zealand Herald.
Prison Governor Sudjonggo reportedly told Ormsby “not to come back here” when she left, according to the AAP, but he must have just been referring to the prison itself and not Bali (at least as far as Ormsby is concerned).
Ormsby, 38, had only been in Bali for two days on holiday last February and was caught at a friend’s villa with half a joint in her purse. Considering the harsh penalties for drug cases in Indonesia, Ormsby actually didn’t get it too bad, receiving 10 months being tried as a “drug user.” And for her good behaivor while in prison, she got off a month early.
“It was terrifying. I thought my life was over,” she reportedly said. The whole prison experience was “not very pleasant,” she told New Idea Magazine. That said, it seems like she’s sitll ready to give Bali another shot and see something other than prison walls during her next trip.
