A French woman was apprehended by police officers at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport earlier this week after reportedly causing a public nuisance in the airport’s international departures terminal.
Reports say that the 30-year-old woman, identified by her initials EM, first arrived at the airport on Monday at approximately 9:30pm and planned to fly with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to Singapore.
She suddenly changed her mind before checking in, claiming that the plane was not safe.
“The airline’s officers directed her to the immigration checkpoint to cancel her ticket,” said Ngurah Rai Police Head of Operations Agung Arjana Putra.
The following morning at around 8am, EM arrived at the airport to buy another ticket to Singapore, this time with AirAsia. The flight was scheduled at 2:35pm.
EM reportedly went through all security checkpoints and immigration desks without any incident until, at around 11am, she began to cause a scene at a coffee shop.
Several female police officers and airport officers were tasked to handle the situation.
“The foreigner tried to run away but we apprehended her,” he said.
EM was taken to Prof. Dr. IGN Ngoerah Denpasar Hospital (also known as Sanglah Hospital) for further treatment. Police suspect that she had been suffering from depression and thus required psychiatric attention.
