Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla was scheduled to fly from Makassar to Bone AKA his childhood home in South Sulawesi yesterday morning. The flight was canceled, however, due to an “unpleasant smell” wafting from one of the seats caused by a previous passenger “accidentally” defecating on it.

Local news outlets reported that Kalla was scheduled to board a Susi Air plane at the Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar bound for Arung Palakka Airport in Bone yesterday morning. The flight was canceled due to “technical problems” that were later revealed to have nothing to do with the Let L-410 Turbolet’s capacity to fly at all.

“[There is] one seat that became the source of an unpleasant smell after a passenger from the previous Bone-Balikpapan route accidentally pooped on it during the flight,” Susi Air’s base coordinator for Makassar Airport Rifaldhi Gumilar told Tribun Sulbar.

“We already washed [the seat] but it still produced a bad smell. This became a concern as it might disturb Pak JK’s comfort,” he added, referring to Kalla by his initials.

Kalla Group spokesperson Diah Zaddiah Rustam told Tribun-Timur that the former VP would hit the road instead to reach Bone. She did not mention anything about the poop incident.

The itinerary for Kalla ‘s scheduled trip to his hometown included visits to local schools and attending the launch of a new mosque. He was also scheduled to meet local officials during his visit.
