The Commission Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested former Tabanan regent yesterday in a corruption case centering on the region’s 2018 incentive funds worth IDR65 billion (US$4.5 million).
The ex-regent is identified by her initials NPEW. She was photographed donning the orange prisoner’s uniform with both of her hands cuffed during the press conference at KPK’s HQ in Jakarta.
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician was arrested along with a member of staff, identified as IDNW.
The anti-graft agency also named RS, an official with the Ministry of Financial Affairs, as a suspect in the corruption scandal. However, unlike NPEW and IDNW, RS has not yet been arrested.
Under Indonesian law, both NPEW and IDNW could face five years behind bars if proven guilty in court.
