A foreign tourist’s act on a Bali toll road has gained widespread attention as he decided to block passing vehicles.
The tall and lanky man is believed to be suffering from a mental disorder after he reportedly had difficulty responding to authorities after they approached him on the Bali Mandara Toll Road.
PT Jasamarga Bali Tol’s Manager of Operation and Maintenance, I Putu Gandi Ginantra, told detikBali that the unidentified man was confronted by his team with the assistance of the police at the nearby Benoa Port area.
“We eventually convinced him to leave the toll road, with assistance from PJR 6 and the police at Benoa Port area,” said Putu Gandi yesterday.
The video showing the foreign national blocking vehicles on the Bali Mandara Toll Road quickly went viral on social media. In the footage, the man, clad in a black shirt and thin white trousers, was seen entering the toll road exit near Denpasar’s Benoa Port.
The incident reportedly occurred on Satuday around 5pm. According to authorities, the man had walked from the Benoa area before entering the toll road.
“He hadn’t reached the toll gate yet. He was walking while obstructing vehicles, but the officers managed to stop him. We persuaded him to leave the toll road,” explained Putu Gandi.
Separately, PT Jasamarga Bali Tol’s Assistant Manager Risk and Quality Management & Coorpotate Communication I Wayan Purwajaya said that two staff members followed the foreigner as he walked to Nusa Dua to ensure he did not pose threat to others.
