‘Flying Fish’ guide in Tanjung Benoa missing after accident

The body of a flying fish guide in Tanjung Benoa has reportedly not turned up since he fell into the ocean on Tuesday afternoon after an accident out on the water.

Komang Astawa, 19, reportedly fell into ocean while on the “flying fish,” a popular tourist water sport attraction in Benoa where people ride on a raft which becomes suspended in the air as it’s pulled by a boat.

At the time of the accident, Astawa was accompanying two tourists from Karangasem at about 1pm, when he fell and drowned—the official Basarnas (search and rescue) report says, according to Tribun Bali

Though Astawa apparently did not make it, the other two tourists on the flying fish reportedly survived.

When search and rescue got the report of the accident at about 2:20 pm, they immediately deployed rescue teams on standby. The search for Astawa also involved water police, Navy, and the Benoa port authority.

Around 6 pm on Tuesday evening, the search for Astawa’s body reportedly stopped and is scheduled to restart on Wednesday morning.
