Three boats reportedly caught fire at the harbor in Benoa, south Bali, on Wednesday.
The boats were apparently all fishing vessels owned by PT. Jaya Kota Benoa.
Benoa Bay Port Police Commissioner Nyoman Gatra said the fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, at about 1:50 am.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire appeared to originate from one of the boats anchored at the port, Gatra said. The fire then spread to two other boats, because they were all anchored so close together.
The fire was completely extinguished before dawn, thanks to help from 15 fire engines and two boats deployed to the scene.
“For the incident, there were no victims and material damage is still being examined. Because the owners have not been able to estimate their losses at this time,” Tribun Bali quoted Gatra as saying.
No official statements appear to have been released yet about the fire’s cause, but Bale Banjar has mentioned that there’s speculation that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
