Just because they’re in charge of law enforcement, apparently doesn’t mean that Bali Police is any less likely to have fire hazards than the average workplace in Bali.
A fire struck a Bali Police treasurer unit and community services building on Friday around 11:30 am.
Local paper Tribun Bali is reporting that the fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit from an AC.
Fortunately at the time the fire broke out, people were not inside because of Friday prayers.
“There was a police officer who first saw fire in the room. He saw smoke billowing out of the air conditioner. Then, a police officer broke glass in the room in order to let smoke out. As a result, the officer sustained lacerations on his left hand when breaking the glass,” Tribun Bali quoted an unidentified police source, who purportedly witnessed the incident, as saying.
Shortly after the fire hit, a Bali Police water cannon and two Denpasar fire trucks were able to extinguish the flames around 11:40 pm.
Losses from the fire are estimated at Rp 75 million, including the destruction of an AC, a TV, three computers, and treasury documents.
