A fire broke out yesterday afternoon at Bingin Beach on Bali’s Bukit Peninsula.

While there were no reports of any injuries, three of the beach’s cliff-side warungs were destroyed, according to local reports.

Firefighters struggled to reach the difficult-to-access burning warungs from the top of cliff.

“The position is so extreme,” South Kuta Police Chief Wayan explained, adding that firefighters had to use water from a pool on the cliff to help get the fire out.

People at the scene made efforts to try and extinguish the fire, but the fire apparently spread rapidly.

“Manual efforts were also made using sea water,” Latra said, as quoted by the Jawa Pos.

The fire started in one warung and quickly spread to the two others with ease, because of the thatched roofs, Latra added.

The cause of the fire is reportedly still under investigation but it’s alleged it started when someone was welding in the first warung that went ablaze.

“Before the fire, there were people welding. Presumably, because of a spark from the welding, fire spread to the warung,” Latra said.

It took about three hours to get the fire fully out and an estimated value of losses has not yet been released, but it could reach hundreds of millions of rupiah.

Photos of the fire have been circulating on social media.

Yesterday afternoon’s downpour also played a part in helping get the fire out, according to some of the posts.
