Another monster tourism-oriented project is angling for Bali.
An international stadium could be coming to Pecatu, Bali now that a feasibility study has been conducted.
“The feasibility study has been completed and the results are that it’s feasible to build. We also own land in the region, although there are still slight obstacles, but all can soon be overcome,” Bali Deputy Governor I Ketut Sudikerta said during a meeting with the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday, as quoted by Tribun Bali.
Sudikerta says the stadium’s development is expected to provide revenue for Balinese people and will put the island on the map as a sports tourism destination (oh dear).
“If we can hold an international football tournament, the Olympics, it will increase the number of visitors to Bali. With an increase in the number of visits, the local economy is able to grow,” he added, clearly with an emphasis on the money.
And it keeps on getting… more interesting. Head of Investment and Licensing (BPMP) Bali Province Ida Bagus Made Parwata added that there are also plans to put up an aquatic center in Sanur.
No way would these projects run cheap. The results of the feasibility study put an estimated cost of Rp 1.6 trillion for the two projects. A financing scheme will be made available by the Ministry of Finance, Parwata explained, and moreover, Bali’s provincial government would also find an operator to manage the stadium.
