A 49-year-old man from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has been named a suspect for physical and sexual abuse of his own daughter, who has reportedly been raped since she was five years old. The victim is now 16.
Police in Kupang city said yesterday that the suspect, identified as SYN, raped his daughter to satisfy his sexual urges.
“The suspect’s motive for raping his daughter is because of lust, he said he has ‘fasted’ for a while and it’s been a long time since he didn’t engage in any sexual relationship,” Hasri Manasye Jaha, criminal investigation unit head at Kupang City Police, said.
The victim, identified as GYN, told authorities that she was first raped by her father when she was five, on occasions when her mother, who passed away in 2015, was not at home. In addition, GYN reportedly remarried in 2017 and later served time in prison for physically abusing his second wife, who has since left him.
SYN suffered from the latest incident earlier this month, when GYN allegedly forced her to have sex with him. She refused and sought refuge by staying at a relative’s home, but when she returned home a few days later, GYN reportedly hit her.
Her relatives then took her to a women’s shelter, and the violence was eventually reported to the police.
SYN has been charged with violation of multiple articles on rape, which could see him serve up to 15 years in prison. He also stands to serve an additional one-third of the sentence due to his relation as family of the victim.
