There will be no autopsy for the young Australian man who died last week in Bali after crashing through a glass panel in his Kuta hotel, say police.
The family of Perth man Daniel Evans, 24, declined to grant authorization for autopsy, reports AAP.
“The family came here to see the body of Daniel and they conveyed their rejection for autopsy,” the head of Sanglah Hospital’s forensic installation, Ida Bagus Putu Alit, said on Saturday, as quoted by AAP.
“We deliver this autopsy rejection to the police. After the autopsy rejection, usually the police then will hand over the body to the family.”
Not doing the autopsy won’t be an issue, says Kuta Police Station chief detective Slamet.
“It’s not a problem if the family rejected the autopsy, especially when the investigation so far yielding that it’s purely accident and there’s no indication of crime at all,” Slamet said.
Evans died on Wednesday, after he got a tattoo and returned to Harris Hotel in Kuta where he had been staying with girlfriend Chelsey Graham. Allegedly drunk, he crashed into a glass panel at the hotel when trying to go back inside from his room’s veranda.
He was taken to Siloam Hospital then redirected to Sanglah Hospital because of his critical condition—but it’s believed he died en route to Sanglah from severe blood loss.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that it is working with Evans’ family.
