Family of Fernando Campello struggles to bring body back home, turns to crowd-funding

Friends and family members are desperately trying to bring home the body of the 24-year-old Brazilian national who had been reported missing in Gili Trawangan island two weeks ago.

Luciana Vieira, started a crowd-funding page to help her cover the mounting costs she’s faced ever since her son, Fernando Campello, was reported missing on January 30 from Gili Trawangan, a small island off the coast of Lombok.

A body found in Lombok waters the day after Campello went missing was later confirmed to be Vieira’s son, though for more than a week after his disappearance, she had been adamant it was not Campello.

According to her GoFundMe page, she needs $25,000 to cover flying out from Australia to search for her missing son, along with costs to fly her deceased son back home to Australia and have a funeral for him there.

As of writing, Vieira has raised just shy of $1,400, so it looks like she has a long way to go.
