A huge tree on the edge of the main road in Sesetan, Denpasar, considered as “sacred” by the locals, collapsed on Sunday, pinning down four people.
The fallen tree caused major congestion on the road for about four hours, forcing traffic to be diverted.
The tree landed on a house, trapping four people inside, one of whom was a toddler, who reportedly died instantly.
The tree fell in the direction of houses near Pura Gajah on Jl. Raya Sesetan, reports said.
“At first, I heard a rippling sound, like an explosion. It wasn’t raining at that moment, but it had rained hard overnight. Suddenly, there was no wind,” local resident Made Putra told Merdeka on Sunday.
While the three-year-old child was killed at the scene, the remaining three people trapped by the tree suffered broken bones and were sent to Sanglah Hospital for treatment.
