Explosion rocks Serangan office building, cause not yet confirmed

A blast struck the third floor a building in Serangan, Denpasar on Wednesday and the cause has not yet been identified.

The explosion was reportedly around 5:30 pm during working hours at PT Aqua Prince Bali Lestari on Jl. Tukad Punggawa.

According to police info, as many as three of the company’s employees were injured in the blast, suffering from burn wounds. The three were rushed to Sanglah Hospital for treatment.

An employee for PT Aqua Prince, Nengah Budiasa, 40, told police he was downstairs on the phone at the time of the incident.

“The witness heard a very loud explosion from the third floor of the building. He went out to the front of the office and saw smoke coming from the window of a room on the third floor,” Tribun Bali quoted an unidentified police source as saying.

While there’s a kitchen on the third floor of the office, employees said there was no gas cylinder there, so that wouldn’t have been the cause.

Other than severely burning two victims and one person suffering minor burns, the blast was quite destructive, damaging the ceilings and roof, as well as breaking windows and doors.
