People coming in on free tourist visas better watch themselves, as the Indonesian Hotel & Restaurant Association (PHRI) announced we can expect a crackdown on visa violators.
“Control must be stringent from Immigration so people do not abuse the free visa,” PHRI Bali Secretary Perry Markus said in Denpasar on Monday.
Markus says he supports the government’s move to up the amount of countries eligible for free visas, but free visas can bring in a lot of sketchy people. But ultimately, the free visas will help increase foreign tourist arrivals so that the national government reach its goal of 20 million foreign tourists annually by 2019, all of which should help boost the economy, according to Markus.
Direct General of Immigration (and former Bali Police Chief) Ronny Sompie said some time ago that he would anticipate the abuse of free visas and take action by forming a team of supervisors on the district level. This would help Immigration increase its surveillance to see who is abusing their VOA, according to Antara Bali.
Alright, guess we’ll just wait for those deportation reports to roll in.
