Short on cash to pay to their steep medical bills, a pair of patients fled Denpasar’s Sanglah Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The patients, identified as Doy, 22, and Boni Laka, 18, of Sumba, NTT, apparently fled after receiving treatment in the ER for injuries succumbed during a motorbike accident.
The two had been rushed to Sanglah via ambulance from the site in Panjer, South Denapsar of their motorbike accident—which was reportedly a crash with another driver, identified as 18-year-old Rixih.
Laka suffered abrasions to the left elbow and right foot, while Doy’s left eyelid was torn (ow!) and he had a cut on his finger.
Rixih was also hurt in the accident, with an injury to his legs and bruising on his eye.
According to Merdeka, both Laka and Doy said they hadn’t intended to seek medical treatment and were going to take care of themselves, but they had to go to Sanglah when the ambulance came for them. It’s unclear from Merdeka’s report of the incident whether they two were arrested or picked up later, but the news site did report that the two still both have outstanding balances at Sanglah: Doy owes Rp 960,000, while Loka owes Rp 155,000.
