He wasn’t the first nor the only foreigner trying to make a buck (or a quid) in Bali, yet an Englishman is reportedly set to be deported from Indonesia for selling burgers in Kuta.
TD has been somewhat of a viral sensation recently, after a TikToker posted videos of the Englishman selling burgers out of a cart that he attached to a motorbike. TD promoted his IDR25K beef burgers and cheese burgers as halal, and said that he had been wheeling around Kuta for the past three weeks.
Today, Kuta Bendesa Adat (traditional village leader) Wayan Wasista said they heard about TD and reported him to Immigration, who then apprehended him. Immigration has also released a photo of TDL at the Ngurah Rai office.
It’s not immediately clear what, if any, stay permit rules TD had violated, or whether his run-in with immigration had anything to do with burgers at all. Wayan said that he learned from Immigration that TD is being deported from Indonesia.
“Immigration is waiting on police too because [TD] made a scene during the Bali Bombing Memorial,” Wayan said.
Wayan was referring to an incident involving TD on Oct. 12. When hundreds gathered at Ground Zero Bali Bombing Memorial to mark the 20th anniversary of the tragedy, TD disrupted proceedings by handing out pamphlets and shouting conspiracy theories about the bombings.
Police took TD in for questioning but eventually released him without any charges.
Immigration has yet to issue a statement about TD’s planned deportation.
