An Englishman found dead in Kuta last week may have committed suicide, police said yesterday.

The body of 48-year-old HW was found in a housing complex in South Kuta, Badung Regency on Thursday morning. Police say there were no indications of foul play behind his death.

Instead, early signs point to HW committing suicide. Police have yet to officially establish a link, but said that the victim had been involved in an unspecified traffic incident a couple of days prior, which may have sent him spiraling into depression.

HW had been recovering from the incident in the home, aided by his partner, an Indonesian woman.

The Badung Precinct initially handled the case, but the Denpasar City Police has taken over the investigation as the case involves a foreigner.

“Our suspicion, for now, is suicide,” Denpasar City Police Crime Investigation Unit Head Mikael Hutabarat said.

HW’s autopsy results are expected to be released today.
