A Dutch national was sent to prison by a local court yesterday after being found guilty of scamming a local in a villa lease takeover scheme.
Reports say that Dirk Hermanus Egbertus Kastermans, 50, was sentenced to two years and three months imprisonment by the Denpasar District Court after he was found guilty of scamming Eddy Lamdjani, 50, who runs a furniture business in Malang.
Kastermans initially leased a 500-meter-square land from I Wayan Wiranata on Dec. 24, 2015 for IDR400 million on Sekuta Sreet in Sanur. The lease would end on Dec. 4, 2025. Kastermans then built a villa there named after himself.Ni Wayan Ari Suryati Dewi then took over the contract starting from Sept. 1, 2020 for IDR500 million.
The problem started when Ni Wayan Ari began looking for someone who would take over the lease from her.
Separately, Kastermans told another man, Hengky Suryawan, that he would release the contract because he needed money to return to his home country.
Hengky reportedly told Eddy about the offer.
The Court found that Eddy paid IDR 455 million (US$30,288) to Kastermans in November 2020 with the agreement that he would take over the lease of a villa in Sanur from the Dutch national.
The lease was supposed to last until 2045. However, when Eddy was going to move in, Kastermans later told Eddy that his partner, Ni Wayan Ari, still lived at the villa.
Kastermans reportedly promised to pay Eddy back in installments of IDR 50 million per month, with June 2022 as the deadline. However, he reportedly never paid Eddy back even past the deadline, which led to his arrest last March.
Kastermans reportedly intends to appeal his sentence.”
