A Red Notice fugitive was apprehended at the Ngurah Rai International Airport last week after having been on Interpol’s most wanted list since 2016. Antonio Strangio, who holds Italian and Australian citizenship, is reportedly part of a drug trafficking network in Italy.
Bali Police spokesman Stefanus Satake Bayu Setianto said yesterday that Strangio was arrested at the airport without struggle on Feb. 3 by immigration authorities before he was transferred to police custody.
Strangio reportedly entered the immigration line using his Australian passport, but immigration officers recognized him.
“His Red Notice [was issued] on Nov. 18, 2016,” Stefanus said.
Reports say that Strangio went to Bali for a holiday.
He was part of a large marijuana scandal involving the distribution of 160 kilograms of cannabis in Rome.
Stefanus said that the Bali Police will work closely with Interpol’s Jakarta office for Strangio’s extradition. The 33-year-old man is currently under Bali Police custody.
