Bali will reportedly soon have a drug rehabilitation center located in Bangli.
This was announced by the head of the Bali division of Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) I Gusti Ketut Budiartha, according to Kompas.
The special rehab institution has been under construction since 2014 and should be completed this year, Budiartha said on Monday.
He also explained that the rehabilitation center is located near Bangli regency’s special drug prison so that it can immediately handle prisoners who need treatment or rehabilitation.
From reports, the rehab sounds a bit like flying: you can go economy, business, or upgrade all the way to first class, with better amenities. The “exclusive” class sounds a bit like the authorities have wealthy foreigners in mind.
Amidst the looming Indonesian executions of the Bali Nine Australian pair, there has been plenty concern over Indonesia’s drug situation, with President Joko Widodo declaring the country as in an emergency state. While that could be exaggerated political talk, BNN Bali’s data, referring to the island alone, reveals 763 drug cases in 2014. Bali is reportedly setting a target of 2,083 people to be rehabilitated in 2015, which is peculiarly specific.
