Disaster responders busy cutting and clearing fallen trees, as Bali experiences intense storms in ‘peak of rainy season’

Trees have been falling down like crazy in Bali over the past couple days, as the rainy season has kicked things up into high gear.

With all the torrential downpour and rip-roaring winds, it’s no shock that some trees just haven’t been able to withstand the conditions.

Denpasar City BPBD Pusdalops (Disaster Management Operation Control Center) has been busy cutting up the fallen trees and getting them off the road and away from traffic.

A series of posts to their Facebook page show Pusdalops teams in Denpasar clearing trees on Jl. Tukad Musi and Jl. Raya Puputan 2, along with posts referencing other reports of fallen trees such as on Jl. Pemuda, Jl. Hasanuddin, Jl. Ahmad Yani, and at the intersection of Jl. Mertasari and Jl. Tirta Empul.

Tribun Bali reported that the tree at Jl. Hasanuddin severely injured two women when it fell. The women have reportedly been rushed to Denpasar’s Sanglah Hospital for treatment.

The Bali Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) did issue storm alerts for much of Bali, including heavy rains for Buleleng, Bangli, Badung, and Karangasem, along with high waves, reaching up to two meters for south Bali waters, up until Thursday.

BMKG Data and Information Director Nyoman Gede Wiryajaya also warned that the public should keep vigilant for floods, landslides, and fallen trees, and exercise caution with the high waves in south Bali.

We are in the peak of rainy season, which usually occurs between January and February, according to Wiryajaya.
