Low-cost airline AirAsia has announced that it would reactivate its Kuala Lumpur-Bali route, making it the latest airline to return to Bali with direct international flights.
In a statement published yesterday, AirAsia said that the Kuala Lumpur-Bali route is expected to relaunch on March 21. The flight is scheduled to carry passengers three times a week until the end of March, before going full throttle (seven times per week) in April.
In the same announcement, AirAsia also said it is relaunching its Kuala Lumpur-Surabaya route, which is scheduled to begin on March 25. That flight will be immediately ready to carry travelers seven times a week.
The two return flights joined AirAsia’s Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta route, which relaunched in October last year, flying seven times per week.
“We hope [the reactivation] of the two routes will become a start of the reactivation of other international routes in the future, not just Indonesia-Malaysia but other countries as well,” AirAsia Indonesia CEO Veranita Yosephine said.
Separately, AirAsia Thailand also announced that it would resume its Bangkok-Bali flight in April, although the airline has not disclosed a specific date.
As of the time of this publication, AirAsia Thailand has already resumed its Bangkok-Phnom Penh, Bangkok-Maldives, and Bangkok-Singapore flights.
Most recently, airlines such as Jetstar Australia, KLM Royal Dutch, and Scoot made their long-awaited return to Bali after the island was shut for some two years due to the pandemic.
