Despite #boycottBali, Virgin Australia says tickets are still selling

Even though some Australians are supposedly calling off their trips to Bali as a form of protest of the imminent executions of two countrymen held in Bali, Virgin Australia reports no decline in ticket sales.

Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has said Australians who have “deep disapproval” for the upcoming executions should stay out of Bali.

Under the hashtag #boycottBali, some Australians have been refusing to fly to Bali in support for saving Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran from the Indonesian firing squad.

But one of the major carriers serving the Oz-Bali route says ticket sales haven’t declined. According to Virgin Australia boss John Borghetti, it’s business as usual.

“We haven’t seen any slowdown in bookings as yet,” Borghetti told AAP.

“Obviously we’ll continue to monitor it like we do with every route on our network and if demand and supply don’t match, then you adjust your business accordingly.”

However, cheaflights.com.au told AAP the opposite, that the site had noticed a significant decline in interested in vacations to Bali, timed after Bishop made her comments.
