A woman was reportedly rescued from a river in Denpasar on Monday after allegedly flinging herself in.
In an alleged suicide attempt, Singaraja woman Ni Ketut Resminiati, 43, consumed liquid floor cleaner and jumped in a river on the edge of Jl. Tukad Yeh Aya IX.
However, a local resident apparently saw Resminiati throw herself into the river and helped pull her out, police told local media.
The woman was unconscious when she came out of the river.
“The victim’s breath smelled of floor cleaning liquid,” an unidentified police officer told Tribun Bali.
Resminiati was rushed to Sanglah Hospital and is now reportedly in intensive care.
While it’s not totally clear what the woman’s motive is for the incident, it’s strongly suspected she was trying to kill herself.
South Denpasar Police Criminal Unit Inspector Dananjaya confirmed the incident to the press.
“The motive is not yet known, because the victim is still unconscious,” the police inspector said.
