The latest string of drug-related arrests in Bali involves 49 suspects for 43 cases getting taken into Denpasar Police custody as a part of Operation Eradicate Drug Syndicates (sounds catchier in bahasa).
These arrests were made over the past month, from March 19, 2016.
Denpasar Police Chief Anak Agung Made Sudana said in addition to prosecuting the 43 narcotics cases, police are also conducting socialization efforts, particularly in schools and other public spaces, to try and suppress drug circulation.
“These drug-related crimes are present in almost all levels of society, ranging from teenagers to the elderly, and then workers to officials. All of them have been the victims of narcotics,” Sudana said during an anti-drug campaign in Puputan on Sunday, as quoted by Tribun Bali. So basically, don’t try a over-profile Bali drug users, because they’re apparently everywhere!
Other than distributing brochures about the dangers of drugs (oh, how menacing!), yesterday’s event also included some entertainment and even the releasing of balloons and pigeons to somehow symbolize Denpasar’s commitment to fighting drugs.
