The body of an infant was disturbingly found in the waters of Kuta on Saturday at 9:40 am.
A man at first didn’t know what he was looking at when he saw the baby floating in the water, while he had been surfing. As he got closer, Andre Hermawan, 26, told Tribun Bali he then recognized what it was.
The baby, found in a “state of decay”, turned out to be female and is believed to have died four or five days before it was found.
“The baby is 51 centimeters in length and the age of the infant is about a month,” head of Sanglah Hospital’s Forensics Dr. Dudut Rustyadi said in Denpasar on Saturday, as quoted by Tribun Bali. Though reports also mentioned the baby’s umbilical cord was still attached, so it’s no clear what was really going on here, if the baby was dumped after it was born or another cruel fate befell it.
An external examination found open wounds on the baby’s head.
However, Rustyadi says forensics will need to perform an autopsy to understand how the baby died, but so far no family or relatives have stepped forward to claim the poor thing.
