Eliška Frank, a 33-year-old tourist from the Czech Republic, died yesterday evening at a hospital in Bali, days after her husband made a desperate pleas for blood donors to save her life.

“I thought I wouldn’t have to write this message. Today, at approximately 9 pm, Eliska lost her fight and her heart stopped,” a friend of the couple, Miloš Kos‎, posted on a Facebook group.

He went on to thank those who helped by sharing information and offering assistance, saying that “it brought great hope that everything will turn for the better.”

“Unfortunately, the way Eliška went was faster than anyone expected,” Kos said.

As reported by Yahoo News Australia, Eliska was rushed to a hospital in Kuta last Saturday after her stomach ruptured, which led to serious internal bleeding.

Upon hearing the news, her husband, Martin Frank, immediately travelled to Bali from Prague, and sought help online to find a blood match for his wife so she could undergo surgery.

“Hello, I am trying to find anybody with A- or O- blood type to donate blood yo my wife. She is on Intensive Care Unit at BIMC Hospital Kuta and she needs blood,” Martin reportedly wrote in a Facebook group for expats on the island.

It appears that his call for help was responded by dozens of people, and he announced on July 1 that they received three units of blood, adding that Eliska managed to make it through the surgery.

“I’m touched by how many great people are in Bali, in Australia and in our Czech Republic … I believe everything will be ok, she is a great warrior. Thank you very much for everything,” Martin wrote then.

Eliška’s tragic death was confirmed by a spokeswoman of Czech Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We received information on the death of a Czech citizen in Bali on Thursday from our embassy,” the spokeswoman, Zuzana Stichova, told Czech media outlet iDNES

According to a report from DailyMail, Eliška was diagnosed with a pancreatic tumor in January. It is unclear if she received treatment for it, but a spokesman from the BIMC Hospital Kuta reportedly said that “it came back,” adding that Eliska had a very strong infection, was anemic, and that she was also suffering from sepsis when she arrived at the hospital.
