A crying baby was found by locals in a dumpster in Dalung, North Kuta on Monday evening. Police suspect that the poor baby was dumped by his parents.
Thirty-five-year-old Usman, who sells popular street snacks gorengan (fritters), heard cries from the dumpster near his food stall on Tibung Sari Street at around 8:30pm. At first, Usman said he thought that it was the sound of a cat or a kid playing. Upon closer inspection, he saw something moving inside a black plastic bag.
He immediately called for help, and, as witnessed by bystanders, he went to open the bag.
The bag contained a baby boy with his umbilical cord still attached. The baby was immediately rushed to a midwife who works nearby.
The midwife, named Ni Nyoman Kusriani, stated that the baby measured 49 centimeters in length and he weighs 3.2 kilograms. The baby is reportedly in good health.
“For now, the baby is under [the midwife’s care],” said Badung Police spokesman First Insp. Ketut Sudana, adding that the police are searching for the baby boy’s parents.
