Crash victim dies from collision with police car

An elderly man who crashed his motorbike from a collision with a police car passed away in Denpasar’s Sanglah Hospital on Monday.

I Ketut Suteja, 68, was reportedly still conscious when he was rushed to the emergency room, but died shortly after receiving medical treatment from his crash that happened in front of Jl. Gatot Subroto gas station, around 1:30 pm Monday, reports Tribun Bali

Agung Wirakusuma, a witness to the accident told Tribun that it was not clear how exactly Suteja’s motorbike went down. A motorbike could have hit him, knocking him over as he was overtaking a police patrol car. At the time of the accident, Wirakusuma says he saw Sutjeja lying under the police car.

I saw someone fall under the car and yelled at the police to stop because there was someone underneath. He was still conscious when pulled out from under the car and the back of his head was bleeding, Wirakusuma told Tribun.

According to Denpasar Police Commissioner I Nyoman Nuryana, Suteja was riding a Suzuki Shogun and collided with a patrol car operated by Tabanan Police.

Suteja suffered apparent head injuries, as well as abrasions on his hands and feet, but the exact cause of death was not publicly disclosed, since his family reportedly did not allow an autopsy process.

Reports have yet to answer the big question of whether Suteja’s family will take legal action against police or what kind of ramifications the police driving the car will encounter, while Darmadi, a sibling of Suteja told Tribun that the family was not focusing on legal issues at that moment.
