There’s nothing like falling out of the sky to speed up the race to the altar.
A couple got engaged on a terrifying AirAsia flight last week that plummeted 20,000 feet when a technical issue caused the cabin to suddenly lose air pressure.
While the drop down on the Oct. 15 flight from Perth to Bali had passengers thinking they had hit the end of the road, prompting them to say their goodbyes, the captain was thankfully able to regain control and safely turn the plane back around to Perth.
Passengers aboard AirAsia flight QZ535 say it was the crew’s “panicked” reaction to the mid-air emergency that really made them fear for their lives. After all, what’s more reassuring than a screaming and tearful flight attendant running down the aisle?
In the heat of the moment, Briton Chris Jeans decided to propose to his Australian girlfriend, Casey Kinchella, on the frightful flight. Jeans had been intending to propose to Kinchella in Bali, but the dropping oxygen masks and crew shouting at people to get into the brace position sped up Jeans’ timeline.
“Luckily she said, ‘yes,'” Jeans told NBC. “We both reconfirmed with each other when we were on the ground.”
Following the flight incident, AirAsia released a statement, apologizing for “any inconvenience” that the flight may have caused.
Accident investigator, The Australian Transport Safety Bureau, says it’s investigating what caused the flight to lose air pressure so suddenly.
The flight was rescheduled to later that same day and most but not all passengers decided to stick it out and keep to their plans to visit Bali.
