Police in Tabanan yesterday said the corpse of a woman was found inside a cardboard box in the backyard of a local resident. Authorities have yet to determine her identity, but strongly suspect that she’s a murder victim.

“For the time being, we suspect she’s a murder victim. If anyone might have lost a member of their family, please report it to the authorities right away,” spokesperson of the Tabanan police, First Inspector Made Budiarta told Detik on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the police, the woman’s corpse was found by accident yesterday afternoon, when local resident I Nyoman Widana was cutting the grass in his backyard. He was trying to investigate the origin of a stench when he discovered that it was coming from cardboard box bound with a black rope.

He called on a friend, identified as I Ketut Surayana, and together they tried to open the cardboard box. Inside, they saw what appeared to be human thighs. The two immediately reported the matter to the village authorities, who proceeded to file a report to the local police.

The statement also said that the victim has long blonde hair and was wearing a black t-shirt and shorts when the body was found. Police added that two of her teeth appeared to be missing, while parts of her body – including her genital area, neck and parts of her head – were already decomposing.

The recent discovery calls to mind Silke Braun, a 55-year-old German woman who was found disturbingly dead in the Yeh Ho River, near Tabanan’s Tegallinggah Village in 2017, half naked with her neck, hands, and feet bound. Police have yet to solve her murder case.
