A construction worker from Jember, East Java came to an untimely end while working near the Mengwi terminal in Badung, Bali.
Ruslan, 35, says he was washing clothes in a river near the terminal on Tuesday around 11 am when he heard the striking sound of something falling.
He told Tribun Bali he turned to see a 1.5 meter-high foundation collapse and bury a construction worker, identified as Andi, 25.
After much commotion and screaming to get the attention of people in the area, Andi was reportedly able to get help from dozens of workers near the terminal to help uncover the young man from the collapsed limestone.
Ruslan says it took a lot of effort and wasn’t easy to get Andi out from the stone, but they finally got him out and were relieved to see his body was still intact.
But things took a turn for the worse when Mengwi police pronounced Andi dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.
The construction site Andi was working on was a project to build a boarding house.
Andi had reportedly been unemployed for a few months before getting this new construction job.
Badung Police investigator Boy Jumalolo told Tribun that Andi’s death was purely an accident and there apparently was a small stream that caused the ground in the area to be unstable.
Based on a autopsy results from a Badung hospital, Andi’s cause of death was from the cracking of his lower jaw and from his oxygen getting cut off when he was buried under the rubble.
Jumalolo told Tribun that Andi’s body will be repatriated to his hometown.
