Chinese woman dead in Nusa Dua hotel pool, but drowning not yet confirmed as cause of death

A Chinese tourist was found dead in the pool of the Nusa Dua hotel where she was staying this weekend.

Wei Wan Wan, 24 had been staying at the hotel in Sawangan for the past two days, when she was discovered limp in the pool around 10:45 am on Sunday. She was rushed to BIMC Nusa Dua, but was apparently beyond saving.

Her body has since been sent to forensics at Sanglah Hospital, where an external examination found several wounds on the woman’s body.

“There are also blisters on the chest, the lower leg, and the lower back of the body. We also found bruises on the body’s upper arm,” head of Forensic Medicine Head Dr. Dudut Rustyadi told Tribun Bali on Sunday.

In addition to two types of wounds on the body, Dudut said there were also signs of suffocation.

However, while that could indicate she did in fact die from drowning, Dudut said they could not yet confirm Wan Wan had drowned.

“Drowning as the cause of death could not be determined because an autopsy has not be done,” he said.

Tribun Bali did not notice any family members of Wan Wan at the hospital to grant permission for the autopsy.
