Chinese tourist ‘invasion’ expected for Year of the Monkey

Bali is expected to see a surge of Chinese tourists to celebrate Imlek, Chinese New Year.

“They are coming from 11 big cities in China,” Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said on Tuesday, as quoted by Okezone

As many as 23,000 tourists from the Middle Kingdom are expected to welcome in the Chinese year of the monkey on February 8, according to Yahya. Though the same report in Okezone cites only 6,000 seats as being booked so far, so we’ll see just how many Chinese tourists actually will hit Bali next month—just look for the ultra wide and tall buses.

The tourism ministry seems to be doing all its part to keep Chinese tourist numbers up and money flowing in, as Yahya additionally mentioned taking advantage of the Chinese holiday time and that Indonesia has been marketing and promoting itself as a destination across Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, and Hong Kong.
