Fancy rounding up your Christmas festivities by watching a dramatic solar eclipse? Lucky for us in Bali, then, as we’ll get the chance to witness the “ring of fire” eclipse this afternoon (with proper eyewear, of course!).

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the solar eclipse will begin at 12.11pm. The “peak” action will occur at around 2pm and the eclipse will conclude at 3.36pm.

This one is an annular solar eclipse (as opposed to a total solar eclipse), in which the moon does not completely cover the sun as it passes and therefore leaving a glowing ring of sunlight around it — the so-called “ring of fire.”

If you’re planning on looking at the sun this afternoon, do remember that doing so can damage your eyes. Don’t forget to wear proper eye protection (such as eclipse glasses) if you are going to observe the eclipse.

Don’t worry if you’re not super prepared, because you have several options to watch the whole thing unfold online (thanks, technology!), which, of course, don’t require safety glasses.
