Canggu residents plant banana trees in street in protest of road conditions

Apparently planting banana trees in potholes as a form of protest is a thing in Indonesia. Kids gather around their demonstration site in Lombok.

The unfinished construction of Jl. Raya Buduk leading the way to major tourist attraction Tanah Lot has sure upset some local residents.

Given that the road has been causing problems for them, residents from Babakan in Canggu have taken to a creative way of protest: planting banana trees in parts of the unfinished road, according to Tribun Bali

This is a form of civil disobedience if you will. I Putu Gede Sjarta, kelian banjar of Babakan says this is not an official initiative or anything, but just an expression of annoyance for the poor road condition, he told Tribun Bali.

Workers rarely work, and although the part of the road where they planted the banana tree had been paved, the rain has worn the thin pavement down, Sjarta says.
