A Canadian man has been reported dead in Kuta.
Trent Parker Tiviotdale was found dead in his room at Homestay Komala Indah 1 on Jl. Pies 1, according to Merdeka.
The 35-year-old allegedly died after he took sleeping pills to cap off a night of binge drinking.
Kuta Police says the Canadian was first found dead by his friend, Dyah Meganingrum Mentari Putri, 32.
Putri said that they had met at a nightclub in Kuta and after some drinking, they decided to go back to the homestay.
“When they went out of the club, the witness explained that the victim was drunk, until she accompanied him to the homestay,” said Kuta Police Crime Unit head, Slamet, as quoted by Merdeka.
At that time, Slamet says Putri claims to have seen Tiviotdale swallow some sleeping pills before she went out to buy him some food. But apparently when she got back, he was fast asleep and snoring loudly—a number of the homestay’s employees also said they heard the man snoring loudly.
At one point, Putri says she tried to wake Tiviotdale, but when she was unable to, she panicked and had homestay staff call for help and he was rushed to a hospital in Kuta. Unfortunately, by the time they made it there, the man was already dead, Slamet says.
Back at the Canadian’s room in the homestay, police say officers did not find any suspicious drugs and only found some scattered beer bottles.
“The victim’s body did not reveal any signs of violence. At the location, officers only found a few empty beer bottles,” Slamet said.
But he added that police are covering their bases and coordinating with the hospital to run an autopsy to find the man’s exact cause of death, whether that be an overdose or from other health issues.
