It was a tragic day for this Balinese teenager’s family as they observed Galungan this week.

The sixteen-year-old, identified by police by his initials RDP, died in a traffic accident yesterday after his motorbike collided with another motorbike that was driven by a 33-year-old Dutch tourist identified as B.

Buleleng Police spokesman Gede Sumarjaya said today that the accident took place in Kerobokan Village in Sawan District.

“One motorcyclist died in this accident, while a foreigner suffered injuries and he is currently hospitalized,” he said.

Gede explained that RDP was driving west at around 6pm yesterday and was turning right at an intersection when he crashed into B’s motorbike after the turn. Gede added that B allegedly did not see RDP’s motorbike.

The teenager suffered cranial injuries and died while being treated at Pratama Giri Emas Hospital, while the Rotterdam-born B suffered bruises on his arms as well as his face.

The incident is still under investigation by the Buleleng Police.
