A video went viral over the weekend showing a fully naked man was on his motorbike waiting at a traffic light in Buleleng. The man was later identified as a police officer who was on his way to work at the Buleleng Police station.
Local outlets reported that the police officer has been identified as 43-year-old IGS, who holds the rank of 2nd sub-inspector at the station. The video was taken by a driver in a car, who was behind IGS (no pun intended) during the traffic stop in Panarukan, Buleleng.
In the video, IGS appeared nonchalant despite getting stares from onlookers.
“So the man on the video is a member of the Buleleng Police who suffered a relapse of his mental health condition,” Buleleng Police spokesman I Gede Sumarjaya said in his statement.
Gede revealed that IGS had undergone treatment at the Bangli Mental Institution twice: in 2016 and 2021.
IGS reportedly started exhibiting mental health suffering in 2012 but was allowed to continue working as he was able to function at work.
In 2016, he suffered from depression and was brought to a mental health institution. He was declared healthy in 2018 before relapsing in 2021 and later, as it turned out, over the weekend.
IGS remains active as a police officer and, following the nude video brouhaha, has been brought to the Bangli Mental Institution to receive treatment.
