An Australian man who was arrested in Bali on Sunday for allegedly taking a joy ride on a motorbike will reportedly undergo psychiatric testing.
Identified in reports James Ian Ramsy Fisher, the Aussie allegedly jumped on Komang Rusmini’s bike that was parked on a busy Sanur street and rode away. Rusmini had reportedly forgotten to lock her bike and left the key in the ignition.
However, Rusmini says she saw what was happening, jumped on her friend’s bike to pursue the Aussie, and shouted at traditional security guards to stop the man, reports News Corp Australia.
“At the traffic lights, about 500 meters from the shop, the perpetrator was blocked by a (police assigned to a village as a security advisor) and traditional Balinese guards who were around the traffic lights to safeguard a Ngaben (cremation) ceremony,” said South Denpasar police chief, Nanang Prihasmoko, as quoted by News Corp.
Man those ceremonies really do come in handy when pursuing bike thieves.
Fisher was taken to the South Denpasar police station on Sunday night and then admitted to Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar for a week of observation and psychiatric testing, before they make a decision on whether to charge him or not, according to police.
Fisher apparently gave inconsistent answers when questioned about when he arrived in Bali, making it unclear whether he is a tourist or expat.
When arrested, he had a wallet, a driving license, and Rp 50,000 on him.
