If you want to reduce your chances of a harsh punishment in the Bali criminal justice system, then you best cooperate, tell the truth, and try your darned hardest to show some remorse.
This was the sentiment conveyed by lawyer Haposan Sihombing who has been hired as the attorney for the British man accused of taking part in the brutal murder of a Bali policeman found dead on Kuta Beach last morning Wednesday.
Sihombing says his client, British man David Taylor, will tell the “complete story” about the events of the night I Wayan Sudarsa was killed, allegedly by he and Australian girlfriend Sara Connor.
Taylor and Connor were arrested at the Australian consulate on Friday after a manhunt for the pair and have since been named suspects.
Sihombing, says based on his experience defending Bali Nine member Renae Lawrence, he explained to his client that he should stick to the truth.
“Incriminating factor is when the suspect not co-operative, beating around the bush, not admitting his mistake and it will cause harsher punishment. I told him so that he could think about it tonight because tomorrow, you will be examined again,” Sihombing told reporters, as quoted by AAP.
He continued, that after defending Lawrence, “she got 20 years while others got death and life in jail. He knows that”. (And she even just got six months knocked off her 20 year sentence in honor of Indonesian Independence Day.)
It’s kind of hard to argue with Sihombing’s reasoning after that point.
