Some people just settle for a couple of sarongs or some rice farmer hats as souvenirs from their Bali holiday.
One British tourist, however, got a whole lot more than she bargained her Indonesian rupiah for when she opened up her suitcase to find a live scorpion had tagged along for the ride.
The scorpion popped out of a wood and glass bowl that Liverpool woman Natasha Collins, 25, bought as a souvenir during her week-long Bali vacay with her boyfriend.
She had thought it was just a dried leaf that dropped off at first, according to the Liverpool Echo. But when it started moving, it was clear that it wasn’t a leaf.
Collins shared a video of the scorpion after she trapped it in a cup with her roommates, thinking it could have been a potentially lethal critter.
“The glass bowl sits on top of a carved wooden base and they are a common sight in Bali.
“We bought it in a shop in the village of Ubud, thinking it would make a nice centerpiece for the table,” Colllins told the Liverpool Echo
Once apprehended, Collins and her roommates say they called the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) to come around for the scorpion.
The scorpion had hung out in Collins’ luggage for about a week since she had waited to unpack the glass bowl souvenir and had traveled some 8,000 miles with her.
